TLC – Teaching Learning Caring

Sunday School

Our Sunday School welcomes children from age 3 to seventh grade. The children study the current lectionary readings in age appropriate language. These are the same stories they hear when they attend the worship service. Sunday School teachers are always needed. We offer a flexible teaching schedule through team teaching.   If you love teaching consider joining a team, or offering to be a substitute during the year.   If you have a gift for arts and crafts or music, offer this gift for special Sunday or seasonal projects with the children. If you have other gifts for working with children please share them.  The Sunday School year is September through early June.

Our confirmation class is composed of eighth and ninth grade students. This is a two year program. The class is required to give hours of service as part of their program. They learn the Small Catechism and its meaning to Luther and in their lives today. A goal is to guide them in finding the nexus of their faith and their every day life. These young people accept personal responsibility for their baptismal vows taken by their parents on their behalf.  Confirmation is taught by the pastor and a lay leader. It consists of two classes each week.

First Communion

The class is a four week program of intensive learning about the gift of the Lord’s Supper and through it God’s grace. These young people study with their parents in preparation to receive their communion on Palm Sunday.

Vacation Bible School is a summer program that usually occurs in August. It has taken many formats from five mornings in one week to five evenings for family worship and learning, to one night per week over several weeks for family worship and a service project.   We support this program and give a team the flexibility to develop a Bible study and worship program for the children and their families. This is an opportunity for intergenerational sharing and trying new ways to provide ministry to our families. Estimated time: 15-20 hours based on 4-5 day program. Team: 4-6 people suggested.

Lutheran Article Study Group

The group uses the study guide found in the Lutheran Magazine each month to reflect upon and discuss issues and concerns for the church in the 21st century. This group usually meets during the evenings at a member home.

Bible Study

This group meets on Monday nights at 7:30pm except through Lent, July and August.

Critical Conversations Lectures

In partnership with others we offer the members and the community information for planning life events. This includes retirement planning, estate planning, writing wills, coping with loss of a loved one and college planning. We invite guest speakers to share their expertise. The team finds the speaker, arranges for the time and advertises within and outside the congregation. Advertising can be in local papers and through the other local churches.   This can be arranged with a team of 2-3 persons. Estimated time: 2 hours per event plus the event time (2 hours).
